At the Oiartzun Geological Interpretation Centre we will learn about the geological and paleontological wealth of the Oiartzun Valley, the Oarsoaldea Region and the Aiako Harria Nature Park.
We will be taken on an exciting journey through the last 1,000 million years, guided by the fossils and rocks, which will explain things on the way.
The Museum has two rooms dedicated to different subjects:
1. The Geological History of the Basque Country housing a display of the most representative fossils in the Basque Country and full information about the animals and plants that lived over the last 600 million years. We will discover the rocks, minerals and fossils concealed within its strata, take a closer look into the origins, the evolution of life and the formation processes of the physical space in which we live.
2. Geology of the Oiartzun Valley, the Aiako Harria Nature Park and the Oarsoaldea Region. Information panels will take us through highly interesting episodes such as formation of the Aiako Harria batholite, the only granitic structure existing in the Basque Country. We will meet the most ancient inhabitants of Gipuzkoa and observe representative fossils of each of the geological eras present in the Region.
